SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: Acceleration vs Time Graph

This is a very important graph.

We can get a lot of info from this graph.

We can get the velocity from the area under the a-t graph.

Formula:
Velocity = Area under a-t graph

Check out this video to see the explanation:

Reminder:
Acceleration is a vector quantity.
So you need to know both the direction and the magnitude.

SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: Measuring Distance using the Velocity vs Time Graph

Besides using the formula, we can also use the Velocity vs Time Graph to measure the distance traveled.
The advantage of using Velocity vs Time Graph is that it is very visual. You can look at the picture of the graph and calculate accordingly.

Formula:
Basically Distance Traveled = Area under the v-t Graph.

Check out this video to see the explanation:

Extra Tips: This topic always come out in SPM Physics Paper 2 and Paper 3. It will requires you to draw the graph, and then measures the distance traveled.

You will realize that this topic is also applicable for SPM Additional Maths as well.

SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: Acceleration

Calculating the acceleration of a car.

This topic is probably one of the most important topic in physics.

Acceleration is defined as change of velocity over time.

Basically it measures how the velocity is changing for every second.

If positive acceleration, then the velocity is increasing. The the speed is going faster.
If negative acceleration, also called deceleration, then the velocity is decreasing. So the speed is becoming slower.
If zero acceleration, there are 2 possible scenarios.
a) No speed/velocity. Meaning that the object is not moving.
b) Constant velocity. Meaning the object is having the similar speed.

Formula:
a = v / t
unit = meter / second^2 or m/s^2

Note: v = velocity, t = time

Acceleration is a vector quantity.
So you need to know both the direction and the magnitude.

SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: Position-time graphs for Displacement vs Time

Position-time graphs.

Using position-time graphs and number lines to find displacement and distance traveled.

This is also very important for SPM Physics Paper 2 and Paper 3 as well. Make sure you master this topic.

Check out this video to see the explanation:

You will realize that this topic is also applicable for SPM Additional Maths as well.

SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: What is the difference between Distance and Displacement?

An introduction to the difference between distance traveled and displacement.

What is the difference between Distance and Displacement?

Distance is actually a scalar quantity.
Which means we only concern for the magnitude only.

Displacement is a vector quantity.
Which means it has both direction and magnitude.

SPM PHYSICS FORM 4 CHAPTER 2: What is Scalar and Vector ?

The difference between vectors and scalars. Introduction to distance, displacement, speed, and velocity.  Created by Sal Khan.

The most important key is:
Vector = has both direction and magnitude
Scalar = has magnitude only

Check out this video to see the explanation:

You will realize that this topic is also applicable for SPM Additional Maths as well.
